Who is Steve?

Steve grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, and graduated from high school in 1981.

After high school:

  • Attended Asbury College outside of Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated in 1985 with degrees in Physical Education and History.   Lettered 4 years in Varsity Soccer.

  • Married in 1985 to Susan Fox of Opelika, Alabama.

  • In 1985, took a job with the Coweta County School System in Newnan, Georgia, teaching Physical Education and World History and coaching soccer at Newnan High School.

  • Received MS degree in Exercise Physiology from Georgia State University, 1992.

  • Received M.Ed. in History Education from the University of West Georgia, 1993.

  • Voted Teacher of the Year at Newnan High School, 1995, 1998, and 2009. Finalist for the Coweta County TOTY in 2009.

  • Served as Newnan High School History and Social Studies Department Chairman from 1990-2021.

  • Taught Advanced and General levels of World History, in addition to starting an elective class on the Vietnam War.

  • Taught history at Brewton-Parker College, 2007-2017.

  • Teaching history at the University of West Georgia’s Newnan campus since 2017.

  • Published his first local history book, Better Men, in 2022.

  • Steve has 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
