Steve Quesinberry

Teacher, Historian, Author, Speaker

I have taken pleasure in learning about the past since I was a child. Little did I realize then that I would spend most of my adult life learning and sharing history with others, from high school students to senior citizens. I decided to write my first local history book in 2011, and it took me more than ten years to complete.

It was worth it.

I enjoyed the research so much that after releasing Better Men, I decided to delve further into local history. In 2022, I began work on Flagship, Newnan High School: A Chronicle of Community, Tradition, and Legacy, which will be released on April 21, 2026.

The best way to keep up with the projects I am currently working on is to subscribe to my newsletter below, which I send out every 3 to 5 months.

If you are interested in pre-ordering a copy of Flagship, please scroll down on this page.

If you have information for one of my current projects or want to contact me for any reason, please click the CONTACT link above.

Speaking next:

March 19, 6:30 PM, University of West Georgia-Newnan.

The opening of the dial-a-memory program at the Newnan Coweta History Center will feature a presentation by Winston Skinner and Steve Quesinberry on the importance, process, and intricacies of conducting large or small oral history projects, whether for your family or for general research into local history. Winston will share information about his family’s projects that also reach into Coweta’s past, and I will share stories from my experience recording individual memories for Better Men and Flagship.

Better Men: Coweta County, Georgia and the Vietnam War

  • This is not a book full of grand battles and epic historical moments; it is something more. It is a book detailing the lives of ordinary hometown boys who were taken too soon and who, thanks to Steve, will never be forgotten.

-Frank Henderson, Newnan High School History Teacher

  • Thanks to Better Men, I have new reasons to be proud to live in Coweta County. RIP to those HEROES.

    Mark Darrow, Vietnam Veteran, 1967-1969

  • This is a must-read for anyone who wants a personal look at how the Vietnam War affected many families, not only these 23 young men but over 58,000 others.

    Janet Alford

  • This was truly a labor of love. I can't imagine how much time the author must've invested tracking down and interviewing friends, family, and fellow service members to ensure the book's accuracy. A special thanks to him for honoring their memories and treating each with care, respect, and reverence.

    Alan Clark, USMC

  • Even if you aren't from the small Georgia county that Better Men focuses on, or don't consider yourself a big military history buff, you can be inspired and moved by the stories this book tells about the human cost of war.

Chris Swanson, Department Chair, History and Social Studies, Newnan High School

  • Brilliantly written book recounting the lives of twenty-three servicemen from Coweta County, Georgia, who answered the call to duty and sacrificed their lives. If not for the aptly named “Better Men,” the stories of these twenty-three men would be lost to history.

Jim Leathers, Vietnam Veteran, 1967-1968, 1971-1972

  • Steve Quesinberry's Better Men: Coweta County, Georgia and the Vietnam War is not simply a historical record; it is a deeply felt, emotional pilgrimage into the lives of the twenty-three young men from Coweta County who were killed in Vietnam between 1966 and 1971.

    —Joe Loadholtes, Vietnam Veteran, 1968-1969
